The Birthday

Was awesome.  He seemed to enjoy himself immensely.  He had cake, robots, friends, and water to play in and laugh with and hug on.  2 weeks later it’s still a bit surreal that our son is over 1-year-old now.  Granted, reality intrudes with his teeth that are still coming in and the move to the toddler room at daycare.  That may be a post for another time.  For his birthday, all he did was smile and be our kid without worry, without consequence, with the support of everyone who came and was with him spirit to blow out that one candle.  And then cram that robot cake into his mouth, share it with his mother, and smear it everywhere.

Afterward, when he got his haircut, he didn’t really look like a baby.  He grew when he passed this milestone with his willful and loud assurance that he is alive and will live his life.
